They're Trying to Smoke Me Out

It seems as though Bank of America is now having issues cashing some of my PokerStars checks. This comes just a few months after they stopped allowing eCheck transactions.

I think I know what's going on here, and it won't work.

I grew up on Acey-Deucey, Follow the Queen, and 3-Card Lowball... and old habits die hard. So when everyone started playing Hold 'Em in 2003, I had to join them, and I've been playing nonstop ever since.

My journey to this point wasn't easy, but I've managed to have just enough good fortune to carry me through. Starting out with $100 in my PokerStars account, I played $12 45-man Sit 'n Gos and was lucky enough to cash in one or two of them BEFORE I ran out of money. (Hint: Don't do that) Not more than a year later, I was playing the highest limits those games offered. Around that time I headed to Vegas to play in my first ever WSOP event, a $1500 tournament in which I managed to place 25th for nearly $20,000, and an awful lot of skewed expectations.

Since then, I've traveled to Italy, China, Barcelona, Sydney, and of course Vegas every summer, all under the guise of "work." I no longer regularly play 45-man SNGs, now centering my short-term focus on hyper-turbo satellites, and long term on multi-table tournaments. 2010 has offered exciting growth as a player, albeit in a rather temperamental way. It has seen me final table the Sunday Million twice--a feat of extreme luck, and a little skill, that puts me in rather select company--without allowing me to taste the ultimate success.

Poker can be exceedingly splendid or agonizingly cruel, depending on who you ask. But in either case, it keeps you coming back for more. I may not ever get there, but I'm certainly going to try. And that's the beauty of it all.
